We have much to be thankful for as we begin the New Year in 2015! While much of the country succumbed to the politics of fear, you followed your best instincts, saw the good things your representatives accomplished, and re-elected them.
Thanks to you, Sandy Masin and Laurie Halverson will join Senator Jim Carlson to again represent us at the state Capitol. And they will join an impressive team of statewide office holders led by Governor Mark Dayton and Lt. Governor Tina Smith, including Attorney General Lori Swanson, State Auditor Rebecca Otto, and Secretary of State Steve Simon.
A very many of you did more than cast your vote on November 4th. You knocked on doors, called neighbors, and gave money in support of this good cause we call Democracy.
You’ve probably heard the pitch a thousand times before, but if you donate $50 to Senate District 51 DFL, today, you can get fully reimbursed just weeks later. If you and your spouse file joint tax returns, you can donate up to $100 and get fully reimbursed. (Just make sure you send in a single application for that refund! Only one application a year is permitted.) If you would rather donate to the campaigns of Representative Sandy Masin, Representative Laurie Halverson, or Senator Jim Carlson, the same deal applies.
If you would prefer to send us a check, please make it out to Senate District 51 DFL and mail it to PO Box 21222, Eagan, MN 55121. Or just go to our website at DFL51.org to safely and easily donate online.
While we appreciate that most of us, ourselves very much included, have become more than a little tired of things political, we hope you will take that deep breath and consider a New Year donation. We will promptly send the receipts and the simple forms you’ll need to get your state reimbursement.
And please know that every penny of every dollar we receive will be put to the cause of growing our community of Eagan and Burnsville Democrats and working to elect and re-elect Democrats to represent our community. For the 2014 election, this program helped make it possible for us donate over $5,000 each to the campaigns of our state House candidates. It also enabled us to publish our sample ballot and “Ten Ways Democrats Are Helping You” literature piece.
New Year donations are a good way to give Democrats just a little edge as we lay the groundwork for continued progress in Minnesota, and for getting the country back on track in 2016. Not a bad deal for a $50 or $100 “short-term loan”!
Thank you for considering these donations. And whether you can give now or not, we hope the New Year finds you healthy and happy!
John and Lisa, Chair and Vice Chair
