When are precinct caucuses? Tuesday, February 25, 2020
What time do precinct caucuses start? Doors open at 6:30p.m. The caucus starts at 7:00p.m.
Where are precinct caucuses? The Senate District 51 DFL precinct caucuses will be held at Burnsville High School (600 State Highway 13).
What are precinct caucuses? Your precinct caucus is a meeting of neighbors that happens every two years. The precinct caucus is the first step in shaping our party and electing leaders to support our DFL values. The agenda includes: electing a precinct chair and two vice chairs, electing delegates and alternates to the Senate District 51 DFL Convention, and proposing and voting on resolutions that can become part of the DFL party platform. Precinct caucuses are the most basic, grass-roots level of politics.
Do we vote for president at precinct caucuses? No! For the first time since 1992, Minnesota will hold a presidential primary on Tuesday, March 3. Voting will take place all day like a regular election. Click here to find your polling place for the presidential primary. Early voting starts on January 17. Early voting locations will be listed at a later date.
Can I bring my kids to precinct caucuses? Sure! Each precinct meets in a classroom, and your kids are welcome to attend with you. Unless your kids enjoy politics, however, you will want to bring something to keep them entertained!

Do only Democrats hold precinct caucuses? No, all parties hold precinct caucuses on the same night but in different locations. The DFL precinct caucuses for Senate District 51 will be held at Burnsville High School.
Is there a dress code at precinct caucuses? No! Wear whatever you would wear at any other gathering of neighbors.
Do I have to talk at precinct caucuses? You will probably be asked to introduce yourself. Other than that, it is up to you how much you want to participate.
Why should I come to precinct caucuses? To meet your Democratic neighbors, get involved in local politics, and have influence on the political process. Be the change you want to see!
Can anyone come to precinct caucuses? Sure, anyone can observe the caucus. But there are a few rules about participating. You must be 16 by election day to participate in the caucus and 18 by election day to vote on caucus business. You must consider yourself a member of the DFL party and can't be active in any other political party to participate in the caucus.
